1. Empty the residual oil
Try to empty the residual oil in the Empty Oil Can. You can tilt the oil can or use tools such as oil pumps to extract the remaining oil and pour it into a special oil storage container. Ensure that the oil does not flow freely to prevent environmental pollution and fire hazards.
2. Clean the inside of the oil can
Use a special solvent or detergent to clean the inside of the oil can. You can first add an appropriate amount of solvent, such as kerosene, gasoline or a special oil cleaning agent, then seal the oil can and shake it so that the solvent fully contacts the inner wall of the oil can to dissolve the residual oil. Then pour out the solvent and rinse it with clean water several times until there is no obvious oil and odor inside the oil can. Pay attention to ventilation during the cleaning process to avoid the accumulation of harmful gases generated by the evaporation of solvents.
3. Remove oil and gas in the oil can
There may still be oil and gas in the cleaned oil can, which needs to be ventilated. You can open the lid of the oil can and place it in a well-ventilated open space to allow the oil and gas to evaporate naturally. You can also use ventilation equipment, such as fans, to accelerate the discharge of oil and gas. Before the oil and gas are completely volatilized, open flames and static electricity are strictly prohibited to prevent explosion accidents.
4. Classification and recycling or proper disposal
After the above treatment, if the Empty Oil Can is made of metal, it can be recycled as scrap metal and handed over to a professional metal recycling company for reprocessing; if it is made of plastic, it can be recycled according to the classification of plastic waste, generally put into a recyclable trash can, and handled uniformly by the sanitation department. For some oil barrels that cannot be recycled or have special pollution, such as oil barrels that have contained toxic and hazardous oil products, they should be handed over to qualified hazardous waste treatment companies for harmless treatment in accordance with the regulations for the treatment of hazardous waste.
5. Keep records and labels
In the process of handling Empty Oil Can, relevant records should be kept, including information such as the source of the oil barrel, the type of oil contained, the time and method of treatment. For the temporarily stored Empty Oil Can, a clear mark should be made on the outer wall, indicating "Empty oil barrel, cleaned" or "Empty oil barrel, to be processed" and other words to facilitate distinction and management.
