1. Necessary Pre-Storage Treatment
Apply a Temporary Rust Inhibitor: Immediately after drying, spray a layer of water-based rust inhibitor or quick-drying rust-preventive oil onto the inner and outer surfaces of the can to form a physical barrier film, blocking air contact. Environmentally friendly VCI (Vacuum-phase Corrosion Inhibitor) products are recommended, as they continuously release protective gas in a confined space.
Inspect Surface Condition: Ensure there is no residual moisture, oil, or rust spots. Minor rust can be treated with a rust-preventive primer to prevent the spread of corrosion.
2. Storage Environment Control
Environmental Requirements: The storage area should be well-ventilated, dry, and protected from light. Relative humidity should be controlled below 60%, and the temperature should be maintained between 15 and 25°C.
Keep Away from Corrosion Sources: Avoid coexistence with acids, alkalis, and salts. Keep away from chemical plants, beaches, and other areas with high salt spray to prevent electrochemical corrosion.
Use Dehumidification Equipment: During humid seasons or in high-humidity areas, industrial dehumidifiers or silica gel desiccants can be used to maintain a low-humidity environment.
3. Packaging and Stacking Methods
Sealed Packaging: Place the treated metal cans in rust-proof bags (VCI bags) or PE sealed bags, and add desiccant for double protection.
Upright Storage: Cans should be stored upright to avoid inverting or lying on their sides, which could cause the bottom to become damp or deformed.
Elevation for Moisture Prevention: Use wooden pallets or plastic mats at least 10cm off the ground to prevent moisture conduction.
Proper Stacking: Stacking height should not be too high. Use corrugated cardboard or other cushioning materials between layers to prevent damage to the paint film or the can body.
4. Long-Term Storage Management
Regular Inspection: Open packages and conduct random checks every 1-2 months to observe for condensation, rust, or packaging damage, and address any abnormalities promptly.
First-In, First-Out (FIFO) Principle: Prioritize the use of containers with longer storage times to avoid long-term stockpiling.
Clear Labeling: Label the packaging with the treatment date, rust prevention method, and responsible person for easy traceability management.
