I. Controlling Storage Temperature and Humidity
1. Temperature Requirements: Oil-based paints and solvent-based coatings should be stored between 5℃ and 30℃, ideally within the range of 15℃ to 25℃. Excessively high temperatures (>35℃) will accelerate solvent evaporation, increase internal pressure, and pose an explosion risk; excessively low temperatures may cause water-based paints to freeze and separate.
2. Humidity Management: Relative humidity should be controlled within 55%–75%. Excessive humidity can easily cause metal containers to rust and water-based paints to mold and deteriorate.
II. Ensuring Ventilation, Light Protection, and Fire and Explosion Prevention
1. Ventilation Conditions: The storage area must be well-ventilated. It is recommended to exchange air ≥12 times per hour to prevent the accumulation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the point of explosion.
2. Light Protection: Avoid direct sunlight, as ultraviolet rays may decompose the chemical components in the paint, affecting its stability.
3. Fire Prevention Measures: Keep at least 10 meters away from fire and heat sources;
The warehouse should be a Class A fire-resistant structure, equipped with explosion-proof lighting and electrical equipment (Ex certified); Provide at least two 35kg wheeled fire extinguishers per 100㎡ and combustible gas detectors.
III. Sealed Packaging and Categorized Storage
1. Sealing Requirements: After opening, the container must be resealed. You can add plastic wrap to the opening before tightening the lid to prevent air from entering and causing a skin to form. After using spray paint, invert the nozzle and press for 3 seconds to clean away any residual paint.
2. Categorization and Zoning: Water-based paints and oil-based paints should be stored separately to avoid cross-contamination; Paints of different colors, models, and batches should be clearly labeled and managed in designated areas; Do not store with oxidizers, acids, or alkalis to prevent chemical reactions.
IV. Standardized Stacking and Labeling Management
1. Stacking Safety: Stacking height shall not exceed 1.5 meters; shelf load-bearing capacity ≥ 200 kg/m²; Drum bottoms should be raised at least 10 cm, using leak-proof and non-slip pallets to prevent moisture or leakage.
2. Clear Labeling: Each container should be labeled with the product name, production date, shelf life, and hazard class; Warning signs such as "Flammable Liquid" and "No Smoking" should be posted in the storage area, and an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) QR code should be affixed for scanning and viewing.
V. Regular Inspection and First-In-First-Out Principle
1. Inspection Frequency: Unopened: Inspect every 6 months; Opened or in harsh environments: Inspect monthly; Check for bulging, leakage, rust, sediment, or odor^[A3]^.
2. Usage Principle: Strictly implement the "first-in-first-out" system to avoid paint accumulating and expiring. Generally, paint should not be stored for more than one year; two-component paints must be used in combination.
VI. Emergency Preparedness and Compliance Handling
1. Leakage Handling: Do not flush with water! Cover with absorbent sand or oil-absorbing mats and collect in a designated hazardous waste container;
The ground should be covered with impermeable epoxy resin, and diversion ditches and emergency pools (volume ≥ 1.1 times the largest single container) should be installed.
2. Waste Management: Used paint cans are classified as HW49 hazardous waste and must be disposed of by a qualified unit; Small quantities of empty cans should be thoroughly dried before being disposed of at hazardous waste collection points.
