Step 1: Choose a constant-temperature vehicle.

Preferably, choose a van or cold chain truck with dual cooling and heating systems. Apply 2 cm thick polyurethane insulation panels to the interior walls and double-strip the door seams to reduce heat transfer from the outside. If using a regular truck, at least a 1 cm thick layer of XPS insulation in the cargo area can reduce daily temperature fluctuations by 5–7°C.

Step 2: Add ice to the cans.

Wrap the paint cans in 2 mm thick aluminum foil bubble wrap (to reflect sunlight). Then, place them in a snap-on EPS foam box (a typical 6–8 kg insulated box will suffice). Each box should hold four or six cans, with the interspaces filled with ice packs or phase-change thermal storage bags. In actual measurements, in a 38°C summer environment, the temperature inside the box remained stable below 25°C for 8–10 hours. Step 3: Real-time Temperature Monitoring
Attach a Bluetooth temperature recorder to the center of the vehicle, at the door, and on the roof. Set alarms for low temperatures of 5°C and high temperatures of 35°C. Monitor the temperature in real time via a mobile app. If an alarm sounds, the driver should immediately stop and inspect the refrigerator or replace the ice packs to avoid "discovery after the fact."
Step 4: Avoid Extreme Times
In summer, try to "load late and arrive early": load after 6 pm and unload before 10 am the next day. In winter, do the opposite: drive between 10 am and 4 pm to avoid the early morning cold. For long-distance transports exceeding 12 hours, check the temperature at a service station every four hours.
By choosing a temperature-controlled vehicle, adding ice to the barrels, monitoring the entire journey, and traveling during off-peak hours, you can minimize temperature fluctuations during paint can transport, reducing the risk of can bulging, solidification, or delamination.
